BuSpar is a drug prescribed for treating anxiety disorders.

An anti-anxiety medicine, BuSpar works on the chemicals in the brain that causes anxiety, giving relief to such problems.

The drug can be taken in empty stomach and with food. Always follow your doctor’s direction when taking the drug. You should not take larger amounts of the drug or less or take the drug for longer periods unless your doctor says. It is advised not to take the drug for more than four weeks.

For better results, BuSpar has to be taken at the right time every day and also you should never miss a dose. But if a dose is missed by any chance, take the dosage before the next scheduled dose. But never compensate for a missed dose if it is time for your scheduled doses. Taking two doses can only complicate matters. If you come across any overdose, it is better to contact your doctor immediately. Nausea, dizziness, vomiting, drowsiness, stomach pain and blurred vision are some of the symptoms of BuSpar overdose.

Once your doctor decides to prescribe BuSpar, you should have to tell him about all you present and past health history and also about all allergies s that he could take an appropriate decision on the medication. Tell him about all allergies related to any particular substance, food and medicine. Do not hide from your doctor if you have any diseases of the liver or kidney.

BuSpar is rated FDA pregnancy category B, which means that the drug is not harmful to the foetus. Even then pregnant women and those who hope to get pregnant should only take the drug after discussing with the doctor about all the risks and benefits of the drug during pregnancy. Though it is not known if the drug passes into breast milk, it is better to consult the doctor before feeding the babe. The drug is also not prescribed to children below 18 years of age.

Alcohol should be avoided as it only increases the side effects. You should also avoid grapefruit and grapefruit juice as these can interact with BuSpar.

Some medicines are also known to interact with BuSpar and so it is better to tell you doctor about all the medicines that you are taking. If you are using any drugs for treating psychiatric disorders, antibiotics, calcium channel blockers, cold allergy medicines; sleeping pills and muscle relaxers, you should have to tell your doctor. Your doctor may not prescribe the BuSpar if you are using any of the above mentioned medicines or he may go for some dosage adjustments.

BuSpar also comes with many allergic reactions and many side effects. You have to be careful against these allergic reactions and side effects. If you come across swelling (face, lips, mouth, tongue), hives and breathing difficulty, stop taking BuSpar and contact your doctor immediately.

If you experience fainting, uneven heart rate and depressed mood, call your doctor without any delay. Well, some of the lesser-known side effects with BuSpar are dizziness, drowsiness, nausea, upset stomach, blurred vision and insomnia.
